The Space Bars
Improving the experience of quarantine with a product encouraging the separation of spaces.
The approach
The quarantine that followed the Covid-19 pandemic was a catalyst of change in our daily routines and our way of working. Being at home 24/7, we had to transform our living space into our work space. The Space Bars is a product that tackles the need to divide the spaces at home that have adopted new functions.
The goal was to design an object that would be effective at achieving a division of spaces in the most unobtrusive way possible.
How it works
The Space Bars provide an IKEA-style assembly experience, able to be built and dismantled by the user. The inherent flexibility of The Space Bars allows for adaptation to different environments, and can be modified in size as well as in shape.
The Space Bars Kit
The product is composed of simple geometric items, making it a user-friendly product, and is meant to be sold in a kit.
When not in use, the Space Bars can compress in order to save space, by folding like an accordion; they transform to the desired shape that best suits the user's needs of their surroundings. In que light of increased online meetings, it could also be placed as a background, in order to attain more privacy and not having to show ones home.
