Group project by Irene Delgado, Naqiya Mustafa & John Huth
Purpose
Shared Greens is an initiative created to address the sustainability crisis of the food industry. It is a co-growing space in Madrid that practices farming as a service, through establishment of an accessible and centred premises where the users would have 24/7access and are provided with the opportunity to grow their own food. This is born out of the demand from consumers to be less dependent on large supermarket corporations, gaining control over what they eat, and attain a more sustainable lifestyle.
Solution
The company is a development of a new innovation, in the sweet spot between sustainable agriculture and the sharing economy.
The mission of Shared Greens is to create a community and ecosystem that works to produce sustainable food.
This system is run by the members that are producing their own food, the partners that are producing for restaurants, and united by the marketplace, which is centerpiece for the system to function.
The strategy is to utilize hydroponic technologies to steer completely away from the depleting tendencies of traditional agriculture practices. Shared Greens aims to grow the produce at a local level and be accesible directly to the consumer.
